Kalakalappu @ Masala Café Review
A bunch of known faces trying to tickle your funny bone is not an easy task, well it could be a cake walk if it is directed by Sundar C (could anyone forget his Ullathai Allitha). Kalakalappu is definitely what it promised in it trailer. Sundar C has managed a coup of cast with Vimal, Shiva, Santhanam, Anjali and Oviya in the lead.
The story unfolds in Kumbakonam where Seenu (Vimal) owns a family restaurant that is run in conventional style. Maya (Oviya) and her grandfather manage the restaurant and in comes Madhavi (Anjali) a health inspector who is unhappy with things at the restaurant and wants to close down the shutters but ultimately fall for Seenu. Now comes Raghu (Shiva) brother of Seenu who tries his tricks to save the restaurant. Raghu is attracted towards Maya. When everything seems to go well for the pairs a missing diamond case brings John Vijay a police officer at their door step. What happens from here on is a treat to watch.
Vettupuli (Santhanam) rocks as usual and there is no one stopping him. The mere screen presence of Santhanam makes one giggle. Each one plays their part aptly. There is nothing serious about the film and it is a true family entertainer.
Songs by Vijay Ebenezer is hummable. Yes, Sundar C has arrived as a director after a brief hiatus.
